Prophetic Imagery DOM MARTIN |

Dom Martin's imagery from his "Palestine's Wailing Wall' series (2004), bear an uncanny resemblance to the images emerging from Israel's disproportionate 'Operation Cast Lead' war on Gaza (2008-2009). This imagery was first published in 2006 in his volume of art and poetry, CO-EXISTENCE: Humanity's Wailing Wall (2006), and subsequently in his more recent volume, GENOCIDE: The New Order of Imperialism (2008). In this photo-essay, the poet-artist Dom Martin continues his appeal to human emotion and rationale, while exploring the prophetic nature of his 'Palestine's Wailing Wall' series (2004) — by juxtaposing them against internet photos taken during Israel's 'Operation Cast Lead' war on Gaza (2008-2009). |

"Sitting Shiva for the Holocaust" Dom Martin Pencil on Paper 2007 The above drawing was inspired by Rita Corriel's article: "When do we stop sitting shiva for the Holocaust". Here, the traditional Jewish seven-day period of mourning (sitting Shiva) is represented by the 'Shiva Stairway' (center) made up of seven ascending steps, culminating with the tablet of Moses, the Ten Commandments. The Sixth Commandment ("Thou shalt not kill") stands highlighted. The stone steps of the 'Shiva Stairway' were metaphorically built from the rubble of the Temple Mount (lower foreground). In the sky above are the three Patriarchs of the major religions of the Middle east: Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

A lone minaret, remains standing amidst the rubble of this mosque bombed by Israeli jets. The tempestuously luminous clouds would appear to reflect the angst of the Three Patriarchs and the scene resonating the missive of Rita Corriel's article on sitting Shiva.
